Teen Birth Rate Hits Historic Low

Many people seem to be under the impression that teenage pregnancy is on the rise. And I can’t blame people for thinking this, because shows like Teen Mom and 16 & Pregnant make it seem as if teen pregnancy is everywhere! Well, I have some news for you guys! According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), teen birth rates hit a historic low in 2012. This is amazing because I think it helps disprove the stereotype that teenagers don’t know how to prevent pregnancy.

The decline in the teen birth rate says to me that more teens have been practicing safer sex or abstinence. It is important that we continue to prove the negative image of us wrong by showing that we are having safer sex or not having sex at all. We can make smart choices about our sexual health.

If you are informed about safer sex and abstinence, I highly encourage you to pass on this information because it could be extremely helpful to your friends who might not be as aware. And, as always, keep visiting Sexetc.org—a great source of information by teens, for teens.
