Parental Notification

A law that requires minors (young people under the age of 18) to tell one or both parents before or after getting an abortion. You don’t need your parents’ permission; you just need to tell them that the procedure will be taking place. The process for notification in some states is for the clinician who performs the abortion to personally deliver the notice to the required guardian (such as a parent) 48 hours before the abortion. Not all states require parental notification. For the most up-to-date information, call the National Abortion Federation hotline at 1-800-772-9100.
