Parental Consent

A law that requires young people under the age of 18 to get permission from one or both parents or another adult guardian before getting an abortion. Not all states require parental consent. The process for obtaining consent in some states requires a young woman to get “written consent,” such as a letter with a signature or a phone call between the required family member and the physician performing the abortion. For the most up-to-date information on the law in your state, call the National Abortion Federation hotline at 1-800-772-9100.
