Emancipated Minor
An emancipated (“freed”) minor is someone who is under the age of 18 but has the rights and responsibilities of an adult. The laws vary state to state, but generally minors can become emancipated minor if they are under 18 years old and married (if that is legal in their state), in the armed forces or pregnant. Minors can also go to court to ask to be emancipated as a minor if they live separately from their family and no longer receive financial help from them.
