Meet the Staff

Leo Backes (he/him)

Leo (he/him), 17 and a senior in high school, wants to carve out his own place in the world. He joined Sex, Etc. because he loves writing and is excited to provide inclusive and accessible sex education for teens. Queer advocacy is very important to Leo, and in sharing his perspective as a queer teen, he hopes to provide companionship, empowerment and representation for our readers. A member of Big Brothers Big Sisters, where he serves as a positive role model and provides homework help to elementary school students, Leo is also part of the Students for Social Activism club and president of the senior class at his school. When Leo isn’t painting or working on an independent study in two-dimensional studio arts, you might find him taking a long hike, thrifting in Goodwills or walking through town with a coffee in hand.
